Variety is the spice of life. Occasionally you will hear someone insert this proverb into a conversation, but have you met anyone that truly embodies that phrase? If you’ve met Audrey Hatten-Milholin, an Intivix Client Account Manager, then you most definitely have. She’s both down to earth and inspiring in how she approaches life.
Audrey’s been with Intivix for over two years. Her role as Client Account Manager includes frequent interactions with clients, quarterly business review meetings, and helping clients leverage technology to meet business goals. The majority of her clients are in the design industry, but that doesn’t mean they function similarly. In fact, that is one of the things Audrey loves about her role, learning the differences in how businesses are run. In other words, she relishes the variety.
Audrey is both a wife and a mom. She’s been married for 24 years and has two children, a son and a daughter, and two dogs. Aside from her family, one of her biggest passions is the water. The love of water might stem from her interest in Jacques Cousteau as a child, but it has exploded as an adult. Audrey has an Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) certification, which is a recreational scuba diving certification. This certification means that she can dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters (100 ft) and really explore the sea environment that surrounds her. And exploring the sea is something she truly enjoys. To Audrey, scuba diving gives you the sense or feeling, that you are flying through the water. Descending over canyons or underwater mountains is something you can’t totally experience on land, and it’s kind of a feeling that she can’t get enough of.
Monterey to Belize
Her love of scuba diving has taken her all over the world. She learned how to dive in Monterey, where she enjoyed the kelp forests but has also enjoyed diving in Hawaii and Belize, off the coast of Central America. And, hands down, her favorite dive spot is Belize. Here she explores the Great Blue Hole, which is the largest discovered underwater sinkhole. It’s called a diver’s paradise for a reason, and it’s one that Audrey has fallen in love with and continues to visit. She’s even gotten her husband involved in diving. He’s now become her dive buddy. His enjoyment, however, is in catching a look at sharks, specifically the nurse sharks and blacktip reef sharks.
Creativity also runs through Audrey and comes out in the form of drawing, painting, and photography. She tries to draw a little bit each day as a way to unwind. Although she draws a number of different things, she typically skews toward drawing flowers. And when she’s not drawing, you might find her dabbling in watercolors, or in photography. Birds are her medium of choice when it comes to photography, which works out well because they frequent her yard quite a bit – likely from the unroasted peanuts that she puts out for them. While enjoying her backyard she’s able to capture beautiful photos of scrub-jays, chickadees, hummingbirds, red-tailed hawks, and red-shouldered hawks. But you might also catch her snapping a few photos of the sunset or the Pacific Ocean.
Prior to her current creative outlets, Audrey was a dancer. Her love of dance goes back to when she began at eight years old and flourished for many years. Her style of choice was Brazilian dance, which led her to perform in Carnaval San Francisco, and to Audrey joining a dance troop that studied in Brazil. The dance troop performed across the San Francisco Bay area, and in Thailand as well.
Yep, she’s traveled to a number of different places and experienced angles of the world that some might only see in pictures. But occasionally, her travels are closer to home in the form of a good book. One of her favorite authors is Suzanne Brockmann, an adventure/romance writer. Audrey even met Suzanne in-person once, when she and a group of friends traveled to a book signing event. In addition to books by Suzanne Brockmann, you’ll catch Audrey reading real-life stories of adventure/romance novels by other authors. Being an avid reader is yet another way to add variety to her life.
A Real Explorer
If you haven’t noticed, Audrey really likes to explore her world and enjoy every bit of it. And how she explores it, takes her beyond her daily involvement in technology. It’s these creative outlets and experiences that make her who she is; an approachable person who is willing to listen and enjoy all that life has to offer. And, enjoying the variety that life has to offer is something she truly excels at.
